1873-75 are the inclusive dates for Verney Lovett Cameron’s transcontinental expedition. The member of an expedition sent to resupply David Livingstone, Cameron decided to push on after his party received word that Livingstone had died. He hoped to determine whether the Lualaba river flowed into the Nile or the Congo, thereby resolving a conundrum that had preoccupied Livingstone, but he was obliged instead to take a more southwestern route across the continent.
